Curated by Artist Lucy Namayanja; Anthony Watson, independent curator; Dijana Rakovic from Counterpoints Arts.

I am pleased to present my first solo exhibition in 5 years with newly assembled distinctive and significant body of work focusing on industrial and natural materials using their symbolic associations to explore themes of race, sex, play, protest and social justice.

Born in 1978 in Kampala, Uganda, I am an interdisciplinary artist whose work encompasses painting, drawing, sculpture and installation art. I always credit my architecture and interior design course which introduced me to art, through sculpture, life drawing, wallpaper and photography. I earned my diploma at Cavendish Collage London, 2011. I developed an appreciation for cloths, fabric and nature from an early age.
I have taken my own personal experiences from Uganda and have added them  to individual,  cultural and collective experiences of the world.

SITTING ON TOP OF THE TREE
Sculptures and Installation

The works in the exhibition including self-portraits and stick figures have been sketched, observed and developed since 2010. The installation demonstrates the ability of exploration of sex as acting out of physicality and intimacy with the continuity of culture that is ever present. The sculptures are made from banana fibres brought in from Uganda, they are used in cooking Ugandan tradition food, tying knots and creating craft.  There are inspired from my childhood by creating and making toys and objects using both nature and industrial materials, also through play, eating, climbing trees at my home village and later on through my travels in Africa, Asia, Europe, and USA.

Materials, Oil on canvas, sand, and found objects from, Hessian, dried insects, metal, plastics, pins, natural hair, nuts, plants, bones, feathers, cotton and seeds.
